See the Braemar Gathering

Walk up Cairn Lochan
There are many things to see and do in Braemar, but one of the most popular is walking up Cairn Lochan. This is a short walk that only takes about 45 minutes from the car park at the bottom to reach its summit, which has fantastic views over Loch Muick and other nearby lochs. You can also take a detour along some rocky outcrops that give you even more amazing views of the glens below!
The best way to get there is by following path 812 around Loch Muick before turning right onto path 813 when you reach The Cairn itself (you’ll see some signs). From there it’s just another 5 minutes until you arrive at your destination.
Climb Bennachie Hill
Bennachie Hill, which is situated in the area of Braemar, is a challenging climb. This means that it’s not suitable for children and people who are not physically fit. The climb itself can also be very strenuous, so if you have problems with your breathing or heart then it might be best to avoid climbing Bennachie Hill altogether.
There are two routes up Bennachie Hill: one is called the West Highland Way and another one is called Carn Aosdaig Ridge Trail (also known as “The Big One”). Both trails are equally difficult but offer different experiences along their paths.
